April 14, 1893"Viking" stopped in Arendal–once Norway’s biggest port in terms of tonnage handled. Many Americans of Norwegian ancestry can trace their roots to Arendal, particularly those in New York and the surrounding area, as may Norwegian sailors, trimmers, shipbuilders, and carpenters from Arendal settled there.If the name sounds familiar it might be because the Disney film "Frozen" is set in a fictional kingdom named Arendelle, which derives its name from Arendal. Arendelle’s scenery in the film however is based primarily on Nærøyfjord in western Norway, and its buildings from the Norwegian cities of Balestrand and Bergen.
